Rockabilly/revival/jive/rock and roll – ITALY
In August of previous year, I had the opportunity to watch a live performance of a band from “our Trieste” called Pussy Wagons, in Portorož (Slovenia). On that occasion, I also communicated with the guys from this quartet, which in its own way promotes the rockabilly/revival/jive story and messages. In addition to all that, their show is an extremely entertaining gathering, which also shows excellent knowledge of the genre forms behind which they stands as a band.
At the end of 2023, they released a full-length album under their direction with 7 songs in, mostly well-known compositions from the history of rock and roll culture.. So, in their album, we can find following songs in group’s versions, as a : “Apache”, “Kansas City”, “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66”, “Stray Cat Strut”, “Ice Cream Man”, “Mystery Train”, “My Babe”. To all of the mentioned songs, the guys from Trieste gave their more modified arrangement versions, an extraordinary amount of different energy, good mood with the addition of constantly present positive vibes. The sound of the saxophone also gives the present material a special aroma and a complementary spice, and it is important to point out that constantly listening to the band and the songs from the album, you get the impression that the songs are an extra degree more melodic than their original versions. This is after all, another indicator of the excellent knowledge of the mentioned musical forms by the members of the line-up,who, let me add once again, showed that they are equally good entertainers as well as instrumentalists.
Judging by the way of presentation and the performance itself, Pussy Wagons give the well-known material some dimension and form of their own, all the while enjoying themselves while playing the presented material, showing how even if you have something familiar in front of you, it can sound just as good in the end, when they are on the on the other hand, those who do their work with passion, strong energy, and a positive attitude.
