Sigvard & The Bone Whispers come from Lund, Sweden, and „Land Of The Midnight Sun“ is the second album that the band’s leader has released together with his collaborators. As the press material announces, this is an emotional journey through darkness, light, and everything in between.
In Sweden itself, Sigvard enjoys a certain level of recognition and reputation, and on the current album, he offers 9 songs that reflect his and the band’s present ideas and perspectives. Musically speaking, the material is rich in expressive tendencies within the roots music/Americana style. Some songs lean more toward old-school country, others are closer to the more modern Americana form; there are many bluegrass variations, and even a touch of Dylan-like singer-songwriter phrasing. The instrumental interludes can be quite interesting, especially those that contain stronger folk elements.
The songs are mostly quite different from one another, which I assume was the intention; some listeners may find this distracting, while others may see it as perfectly logical. However, Sigvard and his collaborators present their own vision of the roots/Americana story, which they interpret with enough confidence and in their own distinctive way.
