Ghost Funk Orchestra je sastav i idejna priča kompozitora i multiinstrumentaliste Setha Applebauma. Krenuli su kao one-man projekat da bi vremenom izrasli u izuzetno ozbiljan tim muzičara koji od 2014-e godine ima primerenu diskografiju od 8 albuma i više singlova i EP-a. Njihov stil predstavlja kombinaciju modernog funk/ soula sa jedne strane i najviše soula kojeg su u onoj psihodeličnijoj fazi iznedrili izvođači sa poznate etikete „STAX“.
Slušati muziku, songove i albume ovog sastava predstavlja pravi užitak, gde se kroz samu muziku prepliće više stilova i formi, koji teku kroz kroz soul i funk
„Ocotillio“, pesma iz jula 2026-e, je posvećena biljci koja živi u pustinji u New Mexicu, a inspiraciju je autor dobio u pauzi putovanja i turneje benda.
Izuzetno moderan groove sa jedne strane i vintage psychedelic soul/funk sa druge karakteriše ovaj song, koji uz savremen prizvuk podseća i na jednu prošlu eru koja je ostavila itekako bitnog traga. Muziciranje članova postave je koliko intuitivno toliko i precizno, kao i vokaliziranje, koje upravo asocira na period 70-th godina. Nije reč o klasičnom hitu, čak ni standardnoj nešto duže od četvorominutnoj pesmi, ali tokom njenog trajanja čuju se brojni koloritni zvuci, oseća atmosfera, i venama struji period od kraja 60-tih i početka 70-tih godina koji povezuje istoriju žanra, do sadašnjeg vremena.

Ghost Funk Orchestra is a band and the conceptual project of composer and multi-instrumentalist Seth Applebaum. They started as a one-man project but over time grew into a highly serious team of musicians, who since 2014 have a respectable discography of 8 albums and several singles and EPs. Their style is a combination of modern funk/soul on one hand, and mainly the kind of soul produced in the more psychedelic phase by artists from the famous „STAX“ label. Listening to the music, songs, and albums of this band is a real pleasure, as multiple styles and forms intertwine through soul and funk. „Ocotillio,“ a song from July 2026, is dedicated to a plant that grows in the deserts of New Mexico, with the inspiration for it coming to the author during a break from traveling and the band’s tour.
This song features an extremely modern groove on one hand and vintage psychedelic soul/funk on the other, giving it a character that, while contemporary, also reminds you of a past era that left a significant mark. The band members playing is as intuitive as it is precise, and the vocals specifically evoke the 70s period. It’s not a classic hit, nor a standard slightly over four-minute song, but during its duration, you can hear many colorful sounds, feel the atmosphere, and experience a flow reminiscent of the late 60s and early 70s, connecting the genre’s history to the present.
