Swedish musician Jesper Lindell is someone with a respectable performing career behind him. His current album, „Royal,“ recorded in Memphis, TN, is a sort of tribute to soul music, the writers and performers who, during earlier times, left a strong mark on contemporary musical culture with their work and creativity.
The idea of recording an album like this, is very interesting in itself, but at the same time, it’s demanding. Demanding especially for Jesper Lindell himself and the collaborators who worked with him, putting together the complete story and recording material that represents a part of history. Through 9 tracks, some very well-known and others less familiar to a broader audience, Jesper managed to breathe new life into them, while the core psychology of the songs remained the same, and his sound, as well as the way he vocalizes, entered areas where there’s space for rock, Americana, and R’n’B… I have to admit, the whole team did all of this very inspiringly and passionately.
The sound is rich, the sincerity in the interpretation of the songs and the band’s overall musicality is at an exceptional level, and Lindell managed, in his own way, to connect the psychology of the songs from the time they were created with the present day. And such an execution can in no way be considered easy or simple. On the contrary, Jesper, along with his collaborators, delved very deeply into the whole „problematic,“ and in the end came out, let me simplify and say it, as a – winner.
„Royal“ is an excellent album that you’ll want to listen to multiple times, not just because of the songs you already know, but also because of the approach the Swedish musician and his colleagues took in presenting and giving it a different dimension.
Švedski muzičar Jesper LIndell je osoba koja iza sebe ima respektabilni izvođački rad. Njegov aktielni album „Royal“ snimljen je u Memphis, TN i predstavlja svojevrsni hommage soul muzici, autorima i izvođačima koji su tokom ranijeg istorijskog perioda svojim delovanjem, autorstvom dali snažan pečat savremenoj muzičkoj kulturi.
Realizacija ideje da se snimi jedan ovakav album je sama po sebi veoma intersantna, a sa druge strane zahtevna. Zahtevna pre svega za samog Jaspera Lindella i saradnike koji su sa njim realizovali i sklopili kompletnu priču, snimivši materijal koji predstvalja deo istorije. Kroz 9 numera od kojih je deo vrlo poznat, ostatak manje širem sloju slušalačke populacije, Jasper je uspeo da udahne neki novi život, pri čemu je psihologija pesama ostala i dalje ona bazična, a sam sound kao i način Jesperovog vokaliziranja ušao je u sfere, gde ima prostora za rock, Americanu, r’n’b…Moram priznati kompletan tim je sve ovo uradio vrlo inspirativno i nadahnuto.
Zvuk je bogat, iskrenost pri interpretaciji pesama i samog muziciranja sastava je na izuzetnom nivou, i Lindell je uspeo da na neki svoj način spoji psihologiju pesama iz perioda kada su nastale i današnjeg vremena. A ta i takva realizacija nijednog momenta se ne može smatrati lakom niti jednostavnom. Čak šta više Jesper je sa svojim saradnicima vrlo duboko ušao u kompletnu „problematiku“, i na kraju izašao kao ajde da pojednostavim i napišem, kao -pobednik.
„Royal“ je odličan album, kojeg ćete poželiti da čujete više puta, ne samo zbog pesama koje su vam od ranije poznate, već i zbog načina kojeg je švedski muzičar sa svojim kolegama postavio, predstavio i dao jednu drugačiju dimenziju.
