Rag And Bone is a team led by the main figure and author Mats Nilsson. They started their career about twenty years ago, and their current work „Strain“ is supposed to represent, on one hand, a kind of comeback, and on the other hand, a musical recapitulation and inclusion of some different thinking compared to what was the case on their previous three albums.
The fact is that Mats, along with his collaborators, has prepared material that partly, but only partly, leans on the Americana trends, though very specific ones. On the other hand, through the songs present, you can find tendencies that were more prominent, say, during the 70s. Elements of softened progressive, somewhat more complexly arranged rock, as well as the presence of arrangement solutions that are quite intricate, are the features of the music you can hear here.
All of that makes it necessary to listen to the album multiple times in order to get a more relevant understanding of the artist’s world. Three singles were released ahead of the full-length album, which was co-produced by Martin Ekelund, who was also in charge of mixing and mastering.
Rag And Bone čini tim kojeg predvodi glavna ličnost i autor Mats Nilsson. Krenuli su karijeru pre nekih dvadeset godina, a „Strain“, aktuelno ostvarenje bi trebalo predstavljati neku vrstu sa jedne strane povratka, a sa druge strane muzičku rekapitualaciju i uključivanje nekih drugačijih razmišljanje nego što je to bio slučaj na njihova prethodna tri albuma.
Činjenica je da je Matts sa svojim saradnicima pripremio materijal koji se jednim delom, ali samo jednim delom oslanja na Americana trendove, opet vrlo specifične, sa druge strane, kroz prisutne pesme mogu se pronaći tendencije koje su bile istaknutije recimo tokom perioda 70-tih godina. Elementi ublažene progressive, donekle složenije postavljenog rocka, kao i prisustvo aranžmanskih rešenja koja su prilično proširena, odlika je muzike koja se ovde može čuti.
Sve to čini da je potrebno album preslušati više puta, kako bi se relevantnije prodrlo u svet autora. Tri singla su bila prethodnica realizacije full-lengtha, albuma kojeg je produkcijski ko-obradio Martin Ekelund, zadužen takođe za miksovanje i mastering.
