Flutist and composer Jean-Luc Thomas has been active for 25 years, and is recognized as a musician who has experimented a lot over the years, but also brought a lot of interesting and innovative things. This time, together with his quartet, he released an album titled „Sillons,“ which features 8 instrumental pieces, and the single „Takamba Yacouba“ was available in digital form on streaming platforms as a precursor to the album.
What this musician creates musically with his collaborators is not easy to describe, as numerous influences and inspirations are present throughout the sound expression itself. Through one theme, and this is the case with the others found on the album, the ensemble distributes multiple expressive parts, wholes, that we can also consider as separate elements, or distinct, let’s call them scores. And what we find in the sound of the group are clear traces of avant-garde forms, free jazz, experimental classical and neo-classical details, with frequent changes in the very atmosphere within the established themes, where instrumental duels between the members of the line-up also come to the fore. It is important to note that this ensemble and their leader consist of exceptionally professional and gifted musicians.
Personally, I would not list the numerous influences, challenges, and inspirations that guided Jean-Luc Thomas and his team in the realization of the material, but an audience that is inclined toward quality challenges within avant-garde and experimental tendencies, can hear a lot of interesting things here.
Flautista i kompozitor Jean -Luc Thomas je 25 godina aktivan i prepoznat je kao muzičar koji je tokom godina puno eksperimentisao, ali i doneo dosta toga zanimljivog i inovativnog. Ovoga puta zajedno sa svojim kvartetom, realizovao je album naziva „Sillons“ na kojem se našlo 8 instrumentalnih radova, a singl „Takamba Yacouba“ je bio prisutan u digitalnoj formi na streaming platformama kao prethodnica albumu.
Ono što ovaj umetnik sa svojim saradnicima u muzičkom smislu kreira, nije jednostavno opisati, jer brojni uticaji, kao i brojne inspiracije su prisutne kroz sam zvučni izraz. Kroz jednu temu, a takav slučaj je i sa ostalim koje se nalaze na albumu, sastav distribuira više izražajnih delova, celina,koje možemo posmatrati i kao izdvojene elemente, ili izdvojene, nazovimo to partiture.
I ono što pronalazimo u zvuku grupe su jasni tragovi avangardnih formi, free jazza, eksperimentalnih klasičnih i neo-klasičnih detalja, uz česte promene same atmosferičnosti unutar postavljenih tema, gde takođe dolaze do izražaja instrumentalni dueli članova postave.Pri čemu je važno istaći da je ovaj sastav i njihov lider sačinjen od izuzetno kvalitetnih muzičara. Lično ne bih navodio brojne uticaje, izazove i inspiracije koji su vodili Jean-Luc Thomasa i njegov tim pri realizaciji materijala, ali publika koja je sklona kvalitetnim izazovima unutar avangardnih i eksperimentalnih tendencija, može čuti ovde puno toga zanimljivog.
