Heavy/power/progressive metal – POLAND
Wind Down is a quintet from Poland, with members who have extensive previous experience. Their current release was preceded by an EP, and there is no doubt that they expect a significant step forward from their debut full-length album. Their album, which contains 10 songs, represents a conceptual release, with the main theme revolving around Native American culture, shamanism, and spiritual elements.
Although technically surely well-done, arranged, performed, and produced, the material itself is characterized by compositions that range mostly from heavy power metal to progressive metal tendencies, to a lesser extent. The songs are mostly mid-tempo or faster mid-tempo, showcasing precise guitar playing, clean vocal parts, and, I would say, perhaps more than necessary — expected arrangement solutions. In many segments, they are known to remind of German power metal bands from the 80s and 90s, although I assume that at no moment that was their goal. The songs are listenable, even extremely melodic, although the authors’ creativity itself is not so pronounced.
„The Burning Past“ contains certain elements that confirm the experience of the performers mentioned earlier, but the fact is that the mentioned creativity should have been at a slightly higher level.
