Maiija is an Austrian artist who has been present on the scene for quite some time, and whose career so far, can be said to have gone through two phases. In the current one, Marilies Jagsc, her real name, performs as Maiija, and her previous album, titled „I Am“, was released in 2023. Her new album, „What If“, which features ten tracks, seems to continue along the path set by the previous release, both psychologically and in terms of its overall artistic execution.
Through her inner states, emotions, and reflections, presented through the lens of her lyrics, she musically engages with her own vision of indie pop/rock, enriched with a fitting touch of electronic influence. Most of the songs move at a mid or slower tempo, allowing her emotions to come to the forefront, while the atmospheric quality of the material, evokes the images and visions she aims to convey through her songwriting.
In that sense, „What If“ should be viewed as a cohesive whole and a kind of personal concept piece, where the artist plays out her own film, accompanied by subtle yet delicately expressive harmonic arrangements. As mentioned, „What If „, continues right where the previous album „I Am“ left off, and those who connected with the message of that earlier release, will likely find themselves sharing similar impressions and perspectives on this new one as well.
Maiija je austrijska umtnica, koja je već duže vreme na sceni, i čija dosadašnja karijera je može se reći, imala dve faze. U ovoj aktuelnoj, Marilies Jagsch, njeno pravo ime, nastupa kao Maiija, a prošli album objavila je 2023-e godine, naziva „I am“. Čini se da aktuelni album „What If“, na kojem se nalazi 10 pesama, nastavlja putem prethodnog izdanja, kako u psihološkom,tako generalno i realizatorskom smislu. Kroz svoja unutrašnja stanja, emocije i razmišljanja, prikazana kroz tekstualnu prizmu, u muzičkom smislu, suočava se sa svojim viđenjem indie pop/rocka, koji sadrži primerenu količinu electro upliva. Pesme su uglavnom srednjeg ili sporijeg tempa, gde do izražaja dolaze njena osećanja, a atmosferičnost prisutnog materijala dočarava slike i vizije koju želi svojim autorskim pristupom da prikaže. „What If“ treba u tom smislu posmatrati kao skladnu celinu i svojevrsni lični koncept, gde ova umetnica igra svoj film, uz nenametljivu ali izraženo delikatnu harmoničnu muzičku pratnju. „What If“, kao što sam napisao, nastavlja tamo gde je prethodno izdanje „I am“ stalo, i svi oni koji su osetili prethodnu poruku ove umetnice, evidentno je da će slične poglede i stavove imati i oko ovog aktuelnog izdanja.
