Progressive/symphonic prog. – SWITZERLAND

As previously announced and long expected, „Supervision“, the band’s original 1982 release, has finally been reissued, now available both on CD and in digital form. The album comes with a lavish 16-page booklet featuring photographs, lyrics, and detailed notes about the current edition.

As is well known, this Swiss group was active during a period that could hardly be described as favorable for progressive rock as a genre. Yet, through their distinctive songwriting voice, sonic identity, and conceptual approach, they managed to capture the attention of audiences attuned to this musical direction.

„Supervision“ the band have recorded as a quartet, with Roland Ruckstuhl’s traditionally dominant keyboard work taking center stage. At moments, the material evokes the classic progressive era of Genesis, particularly in its carefully crafted atmospheric works. Personally, I would disagree with those critics who claim that the album leans heavily toward synth pop. The band simply remained faithful to its core principles, artistic convictions, and expressive foundation, elements that here continue to evolve in a more refined and developed form.

Like most of their albums, „Supervision“ functions as a cohesive and interconnected whole, where even the vocal delivery serves the intricately layered arrangements and the broader compositional vision. The production, handled by John Acock in collaboration with the band, feels modernized without sacrificing the evocative “echoes of days past” that define the album’s character. From a technical and organizational standpoint, the reissue has been executed to a high standard, and one can reasonably assume, that the band members have every reason to be satisfied with how this new edition has been realized.
