Black/death metal/various genres – SWEDEN
From the well‑known Swedish city of Uppsala comes the band Circular Ruin, formed back in 2019. Their first EP dropped in 2023, and just recently they unveiled a full‑length album featuring seven tracks under the title „A Sermon in Tongues“.
The lineup consists of musicians seasoned through years of performing in various underground groups, which means that both the technical and performative aspects were already firmly in place before the realization of this latest record.
Circular Ruin deliver a blackened/death metal hybrid infused with hardcore energy, screamo/noise variants, and flashes of thrash. Across the seven songs, the band experiments with diverse arrangement approaches, weaving in strange, almost psychedelic details that surface within the structures of some compositions. The result is aggressive and direct, yet never trivialized—tight, well‑rehearsed, and supported by solid production.
As a personal standout, I would single out the track Ropes to Salvation, which, in my view, represents the highlight of the entire release.
Iz poznatog švedskog grada Uppsale dolazi sastav Circular Ruin, koji je formiran 2019-e godine. Prvi EP, objavili su 2023-e godine, a pre neki dan i album sa 7 songova naziva “ A Sermon In Tongues“.
Postavu ovog benda čine članovi koji su imali ranijeg iskustva nastupanja u različitim underground sastavima, tako da „tehnički“ elementi kao i izvođački u njihovom slučaju su očekivano pre same realizacije aktielnog albuma dobro pripremljeni.
Circular Ruin izvode blackened/death metal varijantu zvuka sa hardcore, kao i scremo/noise uticajima. Takođe su prisutni i thrash elementi. Pojedine od ovde prisutnih 7 pesama poseduju oblike različitog aranžmanskog pristupa, gde pomalo čudni i psihodelični detalji se promaljaju kroz strukturu same muzičke forme. Zvuče agresivno i direktno, ne i banalizovano, uvežbani su, usvirani i album je sasvim dobro produciran. Kao lični favorit , izdvojio bih song naziva „Ropes To Salvation“, koji po mom mišljenju predstavlja highlight kompletnog izdanja.
