Blind Petition were one of those bands that did not emerge from the established centers of the hard rock and heavy metal scene. Although their career can hardly be described as particularly successful, they were marked by a notable sense of perseverance during their active years. At one point, they managed to position themselves within the hard/heavy/power metal framework, and there was an objective possibility that their approach could have been embraced by a broader audience—not only by listeners from their national environment or from countries that had greater exposure to their work, primarily those within the German-speaking region.
The band underwent frequent lineup changes and was originally formed back in 1974 in Vienna. It is often mentioned that they even recorded an album in 1977, which, due to financial problems, was never released at the time. Over the years of intermittent activity, their stylistic expression evolved to some extent, and by 2021 they had released a total of twelve albums.
Welcome To Win represents one of the releases that clearly defined their approach during that particular period. Considerable effort was invested in making the album sound contemporary from their own perspective, and at the time the band operated as a five-piece lineup featuring two guitarists. The then-current vocalist, Eugen Mauritius Berger, who struggled with vocal issues, was replaced by Phil Reinhardt, who would later leave the group and turn toward jazz music.
As their second full-length album, Welcome To Win featured a notably polished production that complemented a melodic variant of hard rock/metal, punctuated by pronounced power metal outbursts. The songs were largely uniform in their overall approach, although two or three tracks stood out with more elaborate arrangements, revealing a tendency for the band to step beyond formulaic and mannered frameworks. At the time of its release, the album managed to attract attention—if not commercially, then at least within a certain media context among metal journalists—though it ultimately received a somewhat divided reception from the authoritative voices of the scene.
