Out of San Diego, California, comes a Zhir Vengersky, artist who has been continuously present with his works for some time now, and whose recordings and releases attract public attention. I would add that his perception of music and his overall expressive approach are largely experimental, and for listeners, as well as for those who enjoy analyzing, the creations of this artist represent a real challenge.
„Farewell My Lovely“, still a current edition, released as an LP in a limited print run, and can also be found on numerous streaming platforms. The album features 10 songs, which are not easy to classify with standard terms, but where this author has left us plenty of space to show through their experimental expressive steps how they think and create. Through unusual lyrical steps, as well as uncommon arrangement solutions, a diverse „story“ has been offered that varies from song to song, but woven into a whole, all of this can be described as the author’s unique style. So, we can find many different elements of art rock, and what is possibly interesting, many traces of 80s post-new wave, and generally new wave aspects, known from the works of several British groups from the mentioned period. Especially, the treatment of synthesizers, or keyboard inserts, after vocal phrases can represent authentic and unusual phenomena that certain songs have in their structure. I find these new wave and post new wave influences particularly interesting, but let’s not deceive ourselves, Mr. Vengersky brings something new, different, more complete with his musical and authorial concept, but in a good measure „unexpected,“ and set up in a way that makes it clear that his conceptual solutions go beyond usual standardization.
