Mr. Hverheij is an author who explores the vast horizons of musical spheres in his way, and on his quest, there are no boundaries. You can find a huge number of works that he has created and realized on his ‘Bandcamp’ page.
„Hinterlands“ is an instrumental piece, taken from his album „Fields Of Passage“, and this is the 6th of 10 tracks from the mentioned release. Although electronics as a genre is suitable for experiments and building on other forms, the fact is that I am always surprised when certain authors find some new „free space“ through which they present their ideas, as well as the sounds that arise in their original creations. With relatively minimal accompanying instrumentation, two guitars, delay, and soundscapes, the author finds expressive solutions that are, on one hand, sufficiently natural and „alive“, while on the other, they show how atmospherics pulsate authentically through unobtrusive rhythmic and sonic changes. Although the very guiding idea of this instrumental theme is not set up in a way that the sound itself captivates the potential listener from the start, this artist gradually pulls you into his world, where to repeat once more, „naturalness“ and immediacy, along with conceptual creativity, accompany the dynamics of the piece from beginning to end. This is the modern theme, modern instrumental piece, done from the British Columbia aspects, where this author resides.
